Trump names head of federal housing agency as acting director of intelligence

United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday named Bill Pulte, head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) and close ally, as acting director of National Intelligence.
"William has extensive experience managing America's most sensitive issues, such as the security and soundness of markets," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform, adding that Pulte would continue to perform his housing-related duties.
Pulte was named acting director to replace Tulsi Gabbard, who resigned at the end of May after her appointment in February 2025 had already generated controversy. Her last 15 months in office were marked by positions that diverged from Trump's regarding the conflict with Iran.
Pulte, 38, is known for her staunch defense of Trump, including public attacks on his detractors, which earned her the nickname, in some local media outlets, as the president's "watchdog."
