Trump denies $300 billion in financing to Iran, cited by officials

US President Donald Trump on Monday denied reports that the government was considering a $300 billion fund for Iran as part of a deal to end the war.

"Iran has agreed to never have a nuclear weapon! Furthermore, the story that the US is paying Iran $300 million is Fake News, spread by the Democrats!!!", wrote Trump in a post on the social network Truth Social.

Trump's comments came hours after US Vice President JD Vance said the Iranians "could have access" to a $300 billion reconstruction fund if they met the terms of the deal, but that the fund would be financed by Gulf nations.

"This is the kind of thing they could have access to, funded by the Gulf Coast coalition, as long as they hold up their end of the bargain," Vance said in an interview with CBS.

On Monday morning, senior US officials said the idea of a massive reconstruction fund, along with asset freezes and sanctions relief, were among the options that would be discussed with Iran on Friday.

"And what will be discussed with them is, as you will see in the memorandum of understanding, the possibility of releasing frozen funds, easing sanctions, a big $300 billion fund to rebuild the country," said a senior US official.
