The President of the United States, Donald Trump, criticized this Sunday (14) Israel's attacks in the south of Beirut, the Lebanese capital. The offensive takes place on the verge of the signing of a provisional peace agreement between Washington and Tehran.

"This morning's attack on Beirut should not have happened, especially on such an important day, when we are so close to a Peace Agreement with Iran. Israel has the right to defend itself against threats, but the attack it was responding to was very small and irrelevant; no one was harmed, injured or killed, and this should not hinder this very important process", wrote the Republican on his social network Truth Social.

Trump reiterated that the peace agreement is close to happening and that peace in Lebanon is part of the terms. He called on all parties to retreat from offensives.

"We are very close to an agreement that will bring peace to the region, including Lebanon, and all parties must back down. There must be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon, but there must also be no more attacks by any other party, including Hezbollah, against Israel," he added.

The Republican also made an appeal that the opportunity for peace not be wasted.

"This could be the beginning of a long and wonderful peace - let's not waste this opportunity!" he concluded.
