Trump celebrates US Independence Day before speech

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, praised this Saturday (4) the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of American independence and stated that the public gathered in Washington was "incredible", despite the high temperatures recorded in the capital.

In a publication in Truth Social, Trump said that the heat was lower than expected and highlighted the presence of the public, in addition to the aerial performances carried out during the celebration. The American president also announced that he would give a speech at the Lincoln Memorial in the evening.

According to a senior White House official, Trump should address the founding of the United States, highlight what he considers makes the country exceptional and highlight achievements of his administration.

Earlier this week, the president downplayed concerns about the extreme heat predicted for the Fourth of July holiday and said he would give a "very long" speech to demonstrate that he would be able to face the weather conditions.

Trump has also been criticized for transforming events organized to celebrate 250 years of independence into spaces for personal promotion. Previously, he stated that the evening's program would include a "Trump rally", in addition to the tribute to the United States.
