Trump asks gas stations to reduce prices in the US: 'If not, big problems will come'

Trump calls for investigation into "abuse" in gasoline prices.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said on Monday (29) that gas stations need to reduce gasoline prices. According to the Republican, there will be "big problems" if they don't do so.
"Gas retailers must lower their prices IMMEDIATELY! They are too high considering oil is now at $68 a barrel and falling," Trump wrote in Truth Social.

"If retailers don't do this, big problems will come. Start aiming for around $2.50 per gallon," he added.
Last week, Trump said he had instructed the Justice Department to investigate companies in the sector for not reducing prices at the pump in line with falling crude oil costs. He accused companies of price abuse.

Oil prices soared this year after US and Israeli attacks on Iran at the end of February, followed by Iranian responses to Israel and Gulf countries that host American bases.
The scenario is one of discontent among consumers in the face of rising gasoline prices. Meanwhile, Trump shows concern about his popularity.
The president and his Republican colleagues are trying to maintain the majority in Congress in the midterm elections in November.
As the election approaches, diplomacy between Washington and Tehran to try to resolve the conflict has brought some recent relief in gasoline prices for Americans. The issue, however, still concerns Trump.
A ceasefire came into force in April and was later extended, but the US and Iran continue to accuse each other of violations.
