Trump appoints Israeli-American to lead group of "UFO hunters"

Israeli-American astrophysicist Avi Loeb stated that he has been chosen to lead a scientific council that will advise President Donald Trump's administration on the analysis of unidentified flying objects (UFOs), currently officially called Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena.

The information was disclosed by the researcher himself during interviews. According to Loeb, the invitation came from a representative of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which works in conjunction with the Pentagon, the FBI and the White House.

According to the scientist, he brought together around 15 experts from different areas, such as physics, oceanography, statistics, data analysis and psychology, to join the council.

"The first thing we did after the meeting was request more than 50 items of information about known incidents and potentially not just videos but also other materials if they exist," he told Newsmax.

Loeb also praised the Trump administration's initiative to declassify information related to so-called UAPs.

According to the researcher, there are two possibilities to explain the objects analyzed by the group. The first is that they are technologies developed by humans, which would represent a national security issue if they are flying over strategic US installations.

The second hypothesis, according to him, is that some of these objects do not have human origins.

In another statement published on social media, Loeb said that the fact that the government turned to the scientific community indicates that there are still doubts about the origin of part of the phenomena.

"If they were sure they were dealing with human-made objects, they would have an exchange of classified memos within the Pentagon or intelligence agencies," he wrote.
