Trains collide in the United Kingdom and paralyze routes in London; there are dead and injured, says police

Two trains collided in the United Kingdom this Friday (19) and left one person dead and "several" others injured, according to the British transport police. Emergency teams have been mobilized and there are passengers with serious injuries.

"We are responding to reports of a collision involving two trains in the Bedford area. We know that a number of people have been injured and, unfortunately, one person has died. A serious incident has been declared, and officers continue to be at the scene along with colleagues from Bedfordshire Police, local fire and rescue services and the ambulance," transport police said on social media X.
The crash occurred in the county of Bedfordshire, about 90 km north of London. St. Pancras station, one of the most important in the English capital, is closed.
According to the British press, the trains were on a branch that connects the cities of Bedford and Luton. The latter city has an airport which serves as the main operations hub for the airline Ryanair.

An East Midlands Railway spokesman said: "The 4.40pm train from Corby to London St Pancras was involved in a collision with the 3.50pm train from Nottingham to London St Pancras at Bedford South station."
The East of England Ambulance Service said it had sent a number of resources, including an air ambulance, to the collision on the railway line south of Bedford, and asked people to avoid the area.
Transport Minister Heidi Alexander said in a Facebook post that she was "deeply concerned" by news of the collision.
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews were responding to an incident on the railway line south of Bedford and also asked the public to stay away.
Rail operator East Midlands Railway said it would be unable to operate services into or out of London for the rest of the day, while Thameslink said all lines between Luton and Bedford were blocked due to an issue being investigated.
