"Top Gun" actor is stabbed to death; stepson is a suspect, says website
Actor James Handy, aged 81, died on Thursday (4) after being stabbed. He was found lying in front of a home in Los Angeles and taken to an area hospital.
Handy is best known for his performances in "Top Gun: Maverick" (2022) and "Jumanji" (1995). According to the city police, he was killed by his own stepson.
Police officers went to the residence after the suspect himself, 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, called authorities saying he had killed "the man of sin", according to the website TMZ.
He surrendered to authorities and admitted the crime. Gledhill lived in the house where the crime occurred with her mother, Handy's boyfriend.
He was arrested at the Van Nuys Jail and charged with murder. Bail was set at US$2 million (approximately R$10 million).
It is still not known what the motivation for the crime was and where the actor's girlfriend was at the time of Handy's murder.
Handy was born in New York in 1945 and, in addition to "Maverick", in which he played the bartender Jimmy, he acted in "Arachnophobia" (1990) and made brief appearances in police series, such as "NCIS: Los Angeles", "CSI: New York" and "Rizzoli & Isles".
