To CNN, Durigan says Congress will keep the "blouse tax" falling

The Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, stated this Thursday (21) that he believes that the National Congress will make the MP (Provisional Measure) that ends the "blouse tax" into law.

"I have no doubt that Congress will validate and approve the measure on blouse fees. I have no difficulty dealing with Congress and I think they will have no difficulty in turning into law the Provisional Measure issued by the president", said the minister in an interview with Hora H.

Edited by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) on May 12, the MP zeroed the 20% import tax on international online purchases of up to US$50. The measure came into effect on the 13th and, if not analyzed by Congress, will expire - that is, it will lose its validity - within a month before the October elections.

When asked about how he is dealing with congressmen since taking office at the end of March, Durigan stated that the relationship "is very good" and that he receives parliamentarians from all political spectrums, such as those from the government base, the opposition and agribusiness.

From the perspective of Congress, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), stated last Tuesday (19) that he will still deliberate "at the right time" on a date for the installation of the special commission that will analyze the Provisional Measure.

With the measure, there will no longer be any federal tax on these purchases. Only state ICMS (Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services) taxes will continue to be charged. The rate will be the same as that already in force on imported items: 17%.

It is worth noting that the end of the "blouse tax" will be an exemption granted only to purchases made by individuals. Purchases over US$50 are currently subject to 60% import duty.
