Thousands protest in Albania against tourism project linked to Ivanka Trump

Tens of thousands of people demonstrated on Saturday (4) in Tirana, capital of Albania, in the biggest protest against a tourist project linked to the family of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, in a protected area.

It was the 35th daily protest and the biggest since they began the acts, at the end of May, against the construction of a luxury hotel linked to Trump's daughter, Ivanka, and her husband, Jared Kushner, in a natural reserve on the coast of the European country.
Opposition to the project became a focus of expression against perceived corruption in the country. The protesters called for the resignation of the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, for what they consider to be a lack of transparency.
The movement was named "Flamingo Revolution", in reference to the birds with pink plumage that migrate to a natural reserve where the project is located.

"What began with the Flamingo Revolution unleashed widespread public discontent", protester Alketa Ademi, 40, told the agency of AFP news. "Lack of transparency, arrogance. Enough! The prime minister has to go," he added.
According to protesters, the hotel project, valued at 4.6 billion dollars (R$23.7 billion), represents a risk to the environment and a nearby lagoon important for migratory birds.
Opposition to the construction sparked daily protests in Tirana, where on Thursday the police used tear gas bombs and water jets against protesters who were trying to reach the Parliament headquarters.
Some protesters responded by throwing eggs, stones and other objects at the police.
That day, approximately 15 officers were injured and 25 protesters were detained, according to the police.
