'There was positive progress' in indirect negotiations between the US and Iran in Doha, says Qatar

Negotiators from the United States and Iran recorded "positive progress" during indirect negotiations held in Doha, and a new round of talks should take place after the funeral of the former Iranian supreme leader, said the spokesman for the Qatari Foreign Ministry.
The negotiations have been indirect through the Qatari government due to exchanges of attacks that occurred last weekend.
"Mediators from Qatar and Pakistan concluded today, in Doha, separate meetings with negotiators from the United States and Iran, with positive progress on issues related to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, continuing the results of the Lake Lucerne Summit", wrote the ministry's spokesperson, Majed Al Ansari, on Wednesday (1), on the social network X.
"As "The parties agreed to continue discussions in the coming weeks, with the next meeting to be scheduled as soon as possible after the funeral ceremonies for Iran's former supreme leader," he added.

Hours earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that meetings with Iran have been "very good" and that representatives from Washington and Tehran are "getting along very well."
"The denuclearization of Iran is progressing well. They [negotiators] had very good meetings and we will see. We hit them very hard for three nights in a row, but we are getting along very well," Trump said in conversation with reporters before boarding Air Force One.
On Monday (29), Trump said that the Iranian government "requested a meeting" with his government in Doha, Qatar, but the information was denied by Tehran. Even so, negotiators from both countries have been in the Qatari capital since the beginning of the week.
A White House official told the Reuters news agency that Trump "wants the peace plan to work" and that there will be a high-level conversation and another with a technical aspect in Qatar. According to this authority, Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and special envoy Steve Witkoff will participate in the negotiations.
On Sunday (28), Iran and the United States agreed to halt recent hostilities in the Gulf and resume negotiations on the dispute over the Strait of Hormuz, reported the website Axios. The US military bombed Iranian targets on Friday and Saturday, and the attacks were retaliated by the Iranians against US targets in the Middle East.
