Chemical tank implosion in Washington state leaves dead and missing
The death toll from the chemical spill at a paper mill in Washington state, in the United States, rose to 11, after rescue teams recovered the bodies of nine people who remained missing, American authorities reported last Saturday (30).
A huge tank containing tens of thousands of liters of a highly caustic substance imploded on Tuesday (26) at the Longview plant in Washington state, sparking a massive search operation for missing workers.
"We have recovered the ninth and final employee missing from this incident," said Brad Hannig, chief of the Longview Fire Department, at a news conference.
First responders said Wednesday that two people had died and nine others remained missing.

The accident at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging company occurred during an early morning shift change when a 900,000 tank exploded. gallons (3.4 million liters) that contained a large amount of a substance called "white liquor".
This liquid is a highly alkaline solution containing sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfide, used to decompose wood chips and produce the pulp from which paper is manufactured.
Nippon Dynawave Packaging, a subsidiary of Japanese group Nippon Paper Group, produces 8 billion disposable packaging a year for customers around the world, according to its website.
