The Great Debate: Does friction with Michelle harm Flávio or does nothing change?
Businessman Leonardo Bortoletto and lawyer Soraia Mendes debated, on Thursday (25), in O Grande Debate (Monday to Friday, at 11pm), whether the "friction with Michelle harms Flávio Bolsonaro or nothing changes?"
Flávio Bolsonaro publicly responded to the accusations made by Michelle Bolsonaro, who published a video claiming to have been disrespected and mistreated by her stepson. According to Michelle, he would have asked her to stay out of the PL's electoral decisions and declared that she does not understand politics. The episode generated widespread debate about the possible impacts of the conflict on the 2026 presidential race.
In response, Flávio published a video apologizing and reaffirming his respect for the former first lady. "I have never disrespected, mistreated or humiliated a woman in my life. I would never do that to my own father's wife," he declared.
He added: "At no point did I offend or intend to offend Michelle. If I did at any point, once again, I apologize." Flávio also renewed the invitation for Michelle to participate in a meeting the following Wednesday, stating that "dialogue, respect and unity will always be the best path".
Political dispute or family fight?
Lawyer Soraia Mendes assessed that Michelle's video was a highly calculated political move. "Michelle Bolsonaro certainly did not bring family issues to the public. She presented herself as a political subject, in a very well thought out, very well produced video", he analyzed.
For Mendes, Michelle directly reached the electorate that Flávio still needs to win over: women and the evangelical public. She also criticized Flávio's response, classifying it as full of "symbolic violence", as he placed himself as a victim and disregarded Michelle as a skilled political figure.
Businessman Leonardo Bortoletto agreed that the friction harms Flávio, classifying the situation as "friendly fire". For him, the episode reveals a communication failure by the PL. "If I have a candidate for president of the Republic for the party and I have the biggest female leader of this party, it is impossible to imagine that I will be successful in running this campaign if, effectively, these two are not aligned", he stated.
Bortoletto highlighted that the party needs to correct this course urgently, as the public exposure of the conflict puts not only the candidacy at risk, but the strength of two leaders who share the same surname.
