THE FIVE STEPHEN KING ADAPTATIONS THAT THE WRITER HIMSELF WOULD LIKE TO ERASE FROM HISTORY

Stephen King is one of the most adapted authors in the history of entertainment. His books gave rise to film and television classics, but not all versions pleased the horror master. Over the years, the writer has repeatedly revealed his dissatisfaction with some productions based on his works. Among the adaptations that King has criticized or expressed regret for having been produced are: 1. THE SHINING (1980) Although it is considered one of the greatest horror films of all time, King always had problems with the Stanley Kubrick-directed adaptation. The author stated that the film profoundly changed the characters' personalities and lost central elements present in the book. 2. THE TOMMYKNOCKERS (1993) King described the miniseries based on his novel as a troubled and overly confusing production. The writer himself admitted that the book was written during a difficult period in his life, marked by substance abuse. 3. MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE (1986) Directed by King himself, the film is often cited by the author as an experience he doesn't have good memories of. The writer later admitted that his chemical dependency negatively influenced the final result of the production. 4. CHILDREN OF THE CORN: REVELATION (2001) One of several sequels to the "Cursed Harvest" franchise, the film is often cited as one of the examples of adaptations that have completely distanced themselves from the quality of the original material. 5. THE LAWNMOWER MAN (1992) Perhaps the most famous case. King hated the adaptation so much that he sued the producers to remove his name from the project. The film used only minimal elements from a short story by the writer and ended up becoming a work practically unrelated to the original story.
