The two strong earthquakes that hit Venezuela on Wednesday (24) left 589 people dead and 2,980 injured - the number could increase even further due to the destruction and progress of rescue work. Entire buildings and houses collapsed in Caracas and other Venezuelan cities. This Friday morning (26), rescue teams were working to search for survivors. The second tremor, of magnitude 7.5, is the strongest to hit Venezuela in more than a century. Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez declared a state of emergency in the country. Itamaraty confirmed on Thursday (25) that 2 Brazilians were among the dead. Brazil, the USA and Europe sent rescue teams to the country. The tremor was also felt in cities in northern Brazil, such as Manaus and Belém.
