Thai police dress up as dancers to arrest suspect

Police officers from the interior of Thailand went viral on social media after dressing up as dancers for an operation that caught a drug suspect.

The case took place in the district of Tha Luang, in the central region of the country, about 190 km from the capital Bangkok.

The local police published a photo of the agents involved in the operation and wrote ironically: "We didn't even want to go out to make the arrest, because renting costumes is expensive."

The publication does not give details of the reason for the costumes, but, according to the local press, the police took advantage of the occasion of a street festival and dressed up to approach the suspect by surprise.

According to authorities, the detained suspect, who was identified as Mekha "Fah Wep Wep", was in possession of 53 methamphetamine pills, 211 "zip lock" plastic bags and a cell phone.

The police reported that he will be formally charged with the sale and consumption of "Category 1 narcotics (methamphetamine)", in addition to a charge related to participation in "illegal gambling (slot machines)" on an online platform.

"The suspect, along with evidence, has been forwarded to investigators to continue legal proceedings," police said.
