Tesla expands robotaxi operation in the US

Tesla announced this Wednesday (3) the expansion of unsupervised robotaxi operations to the metropolitan region of Austin, in the US state of Texas, which is in the United States.

Wider adoption of full self-driving software is key to Tesla's growth strategy after Chief Executive Elon Musk shifted the automaker's focus from electric cars to artificial intelligence and robotics.

The service has been operating in Austin for nearly a year, where customers sometimes experience wait times longer than 30 minutes.

Tesla has about 50 vehicles operating in Austin, while Alphabet's Waymo has more than 250 cars in the same area, according to a presentation by city officials.

Musk said last month that he expects fully autonomous cars without human safety monitors to become more popular in the United States later this year.
