Tennis: Berrettini shines again and reaches quarterfinals at Roland Garros

Italian Matteo Berrettini secured a place in the Roland Garros quarter-finals by beating Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo by 3 sets to 0, with splits of 6/3, 7/6 (7-2) and 7/6 (8-6), this Monday (1st).

The result equals Berrettini's best record at Roland Garros and marks his return to the French tournament after five years. The Italian had missed the last four editions due to injuries.

Current number 105 in the world rankings, Berrettini became the lowest-ranked tennis player to reach the quarterfinals in Paris since 2007.

The Italian's campaign has been marked by overcoming. In the third round, he saved two match points against Francisco Comesana to stay alive in the competition.

Facing Cerundolo, Berrettini once again showed strength in the decisive moments. In the third set, he saved three set points before confirming victory on the first match point he had in his favor.

In the quarterfinals, the Italian will face the winner of the clash between North American Frances Tiafoe and compatriot Matteo Arnaldi.
