Tecon Santos 10 auction will take place after the elections, says Pomini

The president of APS (Santos Port Authority), Anderson Pomini, said in an interview with the Conexão Infra program, shown this Thursday (25), that the Tecon Santos 10 auction will take place later this year, after the elections.

Tecon 10 is an area of the Port of Santos with 650 thousand meters that will double the container handling capacity in the largest port in Latin America. Today, it is the main asset in the port sector's concessions calendar.

However, disputes involving the participation of companies that already operate in the port and shipowners, the so-called shipping companies, delayed the auction and prevented the notice from moving forward.

"It's past time for us to hold the auction. Several national and international companies have expressed interest, we have already exhausted the studies for modeling. Now it's a political decision. The minister [of Ports and Airports] is just waiting for guidance from the government, which will possibly wait until after the elections, so it should happen this year", declared Pomini.

The need for Tecon 10 arises with the operational saturation at the Port of Santos, which is currently at 79.7%.

The Port of Santos grows, on average, 10% per year. This has been the percentage over the last 30 years for all loads. With the greater movement expected, the expectation is that more industrialized products will be imported - which calls for the expansion of cargo terminals.

"We have no more time to waste, the Port of Santos needs this terminal", declared the president of APS.

Pomini defended the participation of shipowners in the auction - the shipping companies - and the restrictions on current incumbents in the port.

In the latter case, the president of APS assessed that the correct model would be to allow these companies to participate only in a possible 2nd phase, if there were no proposals from new companies, in order to avoid market concentration.
