According to data from the International Diabetes Federation Atlas, Brazil currently records 99 thousand cases of children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes, a factor that leaves the country in the ranking behind only the United States, India and China.

The WHO (World Health Organization) and the Ministry of Health established June 26th as National Diabetes Day, with the aim of raising awareness among the population about prevention, the importance of early diagnosis and control of diabetes for more serious complications.

Symptoms in children unusually include a sudden urge to drink a lot of water, urinating several times a day, being very tired, being excessively hungry and even changes in behavior, such as irritability.

Something that mothers of diabetic children, known as "pancreas mothers", use to facilitate monitoring the disease are new technologies instead of "finger pricks" to assess blood glucose levels.

Lawyer Anna Ayres is the mother of two diabetic children and highlights: "The routine without sensors is exhausting, we need to keep the child under constant surveillance. With technology, we can normalize things, give them back their childhood and have the peace of mind to sleep more than three hours a night, safe in the knowledge that the alarms will protect us from nocturnal hypoglycemia."

The use of control sensors offers greater freedom for children, facilitating school adaptations and less worry when playing.

MedLevensohn's commercial director, Fernando Marinheiro, highlights that "continuous glucose monitors are a game-changer for monitoring blood glucose, something that, for those living with diabetes and needing to control rates daily, is extremely relevant to maintain a comfortable level of health."

Continuous glucose monitors allow patients to have access to their body sugar levels in a shorter time, with alerts being issued through a cell phone application. The sensors even record historical glucose levels, so that people with the disease can present them at medical appointments.
