Teams from El Salvador rescue girl and dog from rubble in Venezuela

Rescue teams from El Salvador managed to free a 15-year-old teenager and her dog, who were trapped inside a building that collapsed in the city of Catia La Mar, in La Guaira, Venezuela, according to Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele.

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck an area about 160 km west of Caracas on Wednesday afternoon (24), followed less than a minute later by a 7.5 magnitude tremor, according to the United States Geological Survey.

Rescuers had to "break through several walls" to reach Camila Sofía Medina Rivas and her dog, Chanel, on the ninth floor of the building, Bukele previously reported.

"We rescued Camila!", Bukele published on the social network X, accompanied by a video of the young woman being carried on a stretcher by several rescuers.

The images show the teenager making a heart gesture with her hands while wearing an oxygen mask and waving to the crowd gathered outside the building.

He also shared an audio of a conversation between Camila and a rescuer.

"We're here to do everything we can to help you," the rescuer is heard saying, after Camila told him she could only move her legs in the tiny space she was trapped in.

"We want you to keep your energy up, so you can help us by making as much noise as you can."

"Okay!" Camila replied, shouting.

El Salvador is among many countries that have sent rescue teams to help Venezuela after the country was hit by earthquakes this week.
