TCU approves new auction for the concession of Brasília Airport

The Federal Court of Auditors (TCU) approved, this Wednesday (1st), the renegotiation of the concession contract for Brasília Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport.
The new agreement provides for a simplified competitive process, with the inclusion of new contractual obligations, the conversion of part of the fixed grant into a variable one and the incorporation of ten regional airports into the contract.
Inframerica informed g1 that it will comment on the issue only after the publication of the ruling.
An investment volume of approximately R$ 1.2 billion is also expected at the Brasília airport throughout the term of the new concession.
Among the planned interventions are, for example:
the construction of a new access road to the airport;
the implementation of a garage building;
the acquisition of security equipment and inspection of passengers and luggage.
Another point of the agreement is the holding of a new auction in 2026.
The competition will have a minimum bid set at 5.9% of the concession's gross revenue. Inframerica, the current administrator of the airport, is obliged to participate in the auction.

New contract without Infraero
Under the new rules, Infraero will leave the concession company.
The state-owned company will be compensated by the concessionaire due to its 49% stake in the current concession.
The new Minister of Ports and Airports, Tomé Franca, assesses that the renegotiation "adds successful practices to promote the development of regional airports by the private partner".
"This measure brings security for new investments, improves the service for users and takes the concession model to new airports, an innovation that will bring benefits to other cities", he commented.

Regional airports as 'counterpart'
Whoever wins the new auction will have to invest, in return, in 10 regional airports spread across the center-south of Brazil.
The future concessionaire is expected to contribute around R$660 million in the expansion, maintenance and operation of the terminals in:
Juína, Cáceres and Tangará da Serra (MT);
Alto Paraíso and São Miguel do Araguaia (GO);
Bonito, Dourados and Três Lagoas (MS);
Ponta Grossa (PR);
Barreiras (BA).
