Tamires recalls his arrival at Corinthians in 2019 and talks about his representation in women's football

Corinthians left-back, Tamires, gave an exclusive interview to Rádio Coringão and recalled the repercussion among women's football fans when she announced that she would transfer to the Parque São Jorge club during her participation in a program by journalist Fátima Bernardes, on Rede Globo, in 2019. In her speech, she did not fail to praise the Corinthians fans.

"Look, the Corinthians fans are different, because how much they treat us with affection, how much they go to the games, how much they supported and believed in the project from the beginning. And since 2019, when I arrived, it was a slightly different announcement, because I ended up going to Fátima Bernardes, when Fátima Bernardes had her program, which was right after the World Cup in 2019, which was also a huge boom. of women's football in Brazil, a huge turning point. And then when I announced that I was going to join Corinthians at Fátima Bernardes, it was a really cool engagement."

She highlighted that, from that moment on, people sought to know a little more about her life story and she gained the nickname 'Mãe da Fiel'. When she was younger, she had to stop playing football because of her pregnancy: "People started to know more about me, they started to know that I was a mother too, then 'Mãe da Fiel' started, and all this construction with the women's football department at Corinthians, always wanting to break records, wanting to make history after history."

"And this really marked my career here. I think this is also one of the reasons for the fans' affection towards me, this issue of dedication on the field that everyone sees, while I dedicate myself to the club, outside of it I also always speak highly of Corinthians. Because we are treated extremely well here, so I think it's a whole group that makes Corinthians such a powerhouse in women's football as well", he continued.

In almost seven years with Corinthians, there are 37 goals and 55 assists in 225 games (187 as a starter), with 173 wins, 34 draws and 18 defeats - 81.39% success rate. In addition, he won 17 titles between Campeonato Brasileiro, Paulistão, Libertadores, Supercopa and Copa Paulista. Later, the experienced athlete spoke about her representation in the sport and how much this status contributed to women gaining more and more space in women's football.

"Certainly, I think you spoke very well about this issue of how I started playing football. We had nothing and today we see this evolution happening, we have to value our work here, so I honor the Corinthians shirt with blood in my eye all the time, but I also know how to value how much the other athletes are also working so that they can also have a good work structure, be able to reach and fulfill their dream. So, this comes from way back, the We always had to fight hard to achieve our goals and appreciation, recognition, and when today we have these people, these women working collectively towards the growth of women's football is very important."

"So, I don't stop exalting this for the sake of the result of the game, I think everyone works, I will honor my shirt, everyone who will honor your shirt. Off the field, we are women who try to seek the best for everyone, for all, for the girls who are coming, to inspire generations and that I also think is part of a lot of what I believe. I want to leave a legacy in women's football, I want people to look, the girls who are coming to look at They come back and say, man, we managed to achieve all this because the athletes stayed together, so we have to stay together. I think this is very important because we are still in the process of evolution", he added.

Then, she was asked about how she projects the competitiveness of women's football over the next few years. In recent seasons, in addition to Corinthians, a reference in the sport, teams like São Paulo, Palmeiras and Cruzeiro have been investing more and more in the sector to, who knows, fight with Timão for the main titles.

"I do believe that the trend now is to be much more equal and much more competitive. But I think it's important sometimes for people who don't know much about the history of women's football and how it came about, it was always very much based on clubs that had many years of winning championships. For example, it was São José, I don't know if you followed the São José era, Botucatu, then the Centro Olímpico came too, then Corinthians. These clubs were a big draw and Corinthians, for years being champion, made other clubs look at this and say that they also needed to invest, that they also needed to structure our teams. Athletes playing outside of Brazil wanted to return to Brazil too, because they were seeing that the championships were becoming more competitive."

Soon afterwards, he added to the reasoning by comparing the work of Arthur Elias, Lucas Piccinato and Emily Lima in command of Brabas. The first was in charge of Alvinegro between 2016 and 2023, when he left the position to take over the Brazilian Women's Team. At the beginning of 2024, Piccinato arrived to replace him and was in the position until February of this year, when he ended up being fired for Emily's arrival days later.

"Arthur's committee plays a fundamental role in this construction, because he also came from behind to make everything happen today and he delivers a very well-structured Corinthians to Lucas. If you look at Lucas's numbers, they are positive numbers, it's just that perhaps the fans are used to Corinthians winning all the championships, so it ended up being a team of people, each coach, each technical committee has a way of working."

"Today we are with Emily, she also has her own way of working. I, like Tamires, a person, never liked comparing works, I always believed in the committee that was there working with me. And I went through many committees throughout my career. So, what I understand as an athlete and as a professional is that we have to trust in the work that is being proposed and do it if we believe in it, if we propose to make things happen. I think this is the most important thing, but the fan, he is there to cheer, to cheer, to criticize, to do what he feels comfortable with and we as professionals have to be here ready to work."

Finally, he answered how long he plans to play football and highlighted his relationship with Emily Lima, with whom he has been constantly praised for the numbers presented on the GPS, which measures the mileage covered per game, in addition to other physical aspects.

"Look, I intend to go there a little more in the two years, maybe more, but we'll see how it goes. I believe that I won't stop before that, but I'm also thinking about the post-career, which I think is important. For athletes, even when they're active, it's important to also think about the post-career, prepare, study, take advantage of opportunities, because an athlete's life really goes by very quickly and by the time we realize this, the opportunity will be gone. I was very happy that the Emily praised me, because we work hard here to make this happen at 38 years old. It's not easy to stay in good physical condition, without the side, which is even more difficult. And there was also the issue of my injury, which was a syndesmosis injury and it's a very serious injury."

She continued: "So it's not easy to return to high performance from one day to the next and maybe when we think about an injury we think like this: 'ah, it's four months, in the fifth month the athlete will already be flying and mine was six months, but then it ended up being a little longer and to fully recover it takes time for physiological issues and everything else. Thank God today I'm able to recover my numbers, return to the Tamires I was before and Emily has given me this confidence, this has been very positive for me, just as she gives confidence to all the athletes too. It's to continue because I want to end here, right, leaving Corinthians well, leaving Corinthians with titles and that in the post-career this is also something good, positive for me in that sense", he concluded.
