Palestra Novo Itu ended up eliminated from an amateur championship in the city due to the participation of striker Léo Jabá, a former Corinthians athlete. Suspended for doping, the player was on the field four times with the team, and ended up being the center of a trial that ended with the team losing 12 points.
According to GE, the punishment was maintained by the competition's Disciplinary Committee even after the team filed an appeal. Thus, the team defended by the 27-year-old striker fell to sixth place in Group B, leaving them out of the knockout stage.

The publication explains that the controversy revolved around the playing condition of Léo Jabá, who is still serving a four-year suspension away from the field imposed by the Anti-Doping Court of Sports Justice, not to mention questions about a possible professional relationship with São Bernardo.
Through its social networks, Palestra Novo Itu contested the decision, claiming that the athlete was registered within the stipulated deadlines and that the regulations do not prevent the participation of players punished for doping. In a statement, the board says that it considers the punishment unfair, questioning the conduct of the disciplinary process and informing that it is already studying measures against the Liga Ituana.

"We are being wronged! We follow what is in the regulations, we do everything within the stipulated deadlines and, even so, we are being punished for something that has never been seen before in the floodplain. Palestra Novo Itu F.C. has always entered the field with respect, transparency and commitment to football. Our history was built on struggle, honesty and love for the shirt.
We are not here to create controversy, but to defend what we believe is fair. Floodplain football has always been decided on the field, with race, sweat and the ball rolling. We will continue with our heads held high, united and stronger than ever. Because anyone who knows our journey knows how serious our work is."
The case had repercussions among members of amateur football in the region, after all, the player had competed in floodplain competitions in other cities without any record of a similar case.
