Suspected 'package bomb' attack in Monaco found dead in Ukraine

The main suspect for carrying out an attack on a Ukrainian oligarch last week in Monaco was found dead this Tuesday (7) in Ukraine, Ukrainian police said.

"The body of a woman was found (Ukrainian citizen Anastasiia Berezovska), suspected by the authorities of the Principality of Monaco of participating in a murder attempt against a family in the territory of the principality", the Ukrainian police said in a statement.
Berezovska, a 39-year-old Ukrainian citizen, was considered by the Monegasque authorities to be the main suspect in an attempted murder of a Ukrainian oligarch with a "package bomb". Police in Monaco and France had launched searches to locate the woman and arrest her. Read more about the case below.
According to Ukrainian police, Berezovska was found dead with "head injuries caused by a gunshot." Two suspects were arrested for the murder, according to the agency.

The note adds that the two suspects detained are a "former member of the security forces" and a "current employee" of the General Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian police also said that they had opened an investigation into Berezovska's murder.
Attack in Monaco
The attack in Monaco occurred on the night last Monday (29) in a hotel, and targeted Ukrainian oligarch Vadim Irmolaiev.
According to Monegasque authorities, Irmolaiev and two other people were injured in the "package bomb" explosion.

Days after the incident, authorities in the principality announced that the Ukrainian woman was the main suspect in the attack, and that she had been seen in Germany.
The Monegasque government initially reported two seriously injured people, a couple aged 50 to 60, and another injured person, a 13-year-old teenager, without revealing their identities.
Monaco's attorney general, Stéphane Thibault, said told the AFP news agency that the explosive device was in a bag or package left by a person in the lobby of the affected building, before leaving the scene. The French newspaper Le Figaro stated that images from surveillance cameras showed a man dropping a backpack at the entrance of the building shortly before the explosion.
"It is the first time in history, as far as I know, that an act of this type has occurred in the Principality," said Mirmand.
Since December 2023, the businessman has been subject to sanctions due to a decision by the National Security Council of Ukraine promulgated by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to several press vehicles, which cite the Ukrainian security services, these sanctions are due to the billionaire's decision to continue his alcohol trading activities on the Crimean peninsula, under Russian occupation.
Denouncing "an atrocious crime", Prince Albert II of Monaco cited in a statement "a blow to the entire Monegasque community" and reaffirmed that "the security" of the European microstate "has always been a priority" and "will continue to be more than ever, whatever the threats."
The authorities have reinforced security measures in the principality, which is already highly protected, Minister Mirmand announced in a brief appearance before the press this Monday.
The three injured were transferred to the French city of Nice, about 20 km from Monaco. Police are searching for the suspect.
