Suspect in death of man in organized fan fight is arrested in RJ
The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro arrested a suspect involved in the death of a man identified as Mateus Casemiro dos Santos. The crime occurred during a fight between fans near the Nilton Santos Stadium, known as Engenhão, in the North Zone of Rio, in September 2025.
The suspect was located hiding in a residence in the Olaria neighborhood. According to investigations, the victim was beaten with pieces of wood during a confrontation between organized fans.
Matheus Casemiro dos Santos was taken to a hospital, but he did not survive his injuries. The confrontation took place hours before the match between Corinthians and Fluminense at Maracanã, valid for the 23rd round of the Brazilian Championship.
Investigations showed that the man acted together with others involved in the attack. One of the accomplices had already been arrested in the act at the time of the events, while the others were identified throughout the investigation.

A preventive arrest warrant was served against him for qualified homicide. He had been on the run since December 2025, when the court ordered his arrest.
According to the Military Police, at the time, agents from the 3rd BPM (Méier) and the Battalion Specialized in Stadium Policing (Bepe) were called to disperse those involved in a fight on Rua José Reis, in Engenho de Dentro. Two people were taken to Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital. A man received medical attention, was detained and taken to the 24th DP (Piedade).
