The Republican gave more details about the incident in an interview with Fox News. According to Trump, Iranian forces used a drone to hit the helicopter and the weapon was "trapped between the two pilots."
Trump also said that the drone was on fire, but did not explode.
The AH-64 Apache helicopter was operating in the Strait of Hormuz region when it crashed around 6:30 pm on Monday (Brasília time), according to the US Army Central Command (Centcom).
The aircraft was shot down by Iran, according to Trump. The US president also said that the US "will need to respond" to the Iranian attack.
This Tuesday (9), the Central Command of the US Army revealed that the two pilots were rescued by an unmanned drone boat.
The two pilots were rescued near the coast of Oman in stable condition about two hours after the incident, according to Captain Tim Hawkins, Centcom spokesman. Hawkins also said that the soldiers were located by an unmanned drone boat, and the rescue took place in the water.

This was the first operation of its kind carried out by the US Armed Forces, a US military official told CBS News.
Hawkins did not give further details about the drone boat model used in the rescue, only that it is about seven meters long. Centcom said the military equipment belongs to the US Navy's 5th Fleet Task Force. According to the ministry, the operation took place in coordination with the US Air Force.
The cause of the helicopter crash is under investigation, according to the US Army. This would have been the first Apache helicopter lost by the US during the war in the Middle East, which has been ongoing since February 28. Previously, the US army suffered drone losses in the region.
It is still unknown, until the last update of this report, how or when the US would respond to the Iranian attack. Following Trump's post, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that "foreign forces near our territory are at constant risk" and suggested that the US should withdraw from the region "to reduce the risk".
The AH-64 Apache is the main attack helicopter of the US Army, which considers it one of the most advanced in the world. The model entered service in 1984, can fly at up to 365 km/h, depending on the model and can carry up to 22 precision and self-defense missiles and another 76 unguided rockets in rapid-fire cannons.
