The Supreme Court rejected on Monday (29) an attempt by President Donald Trump to overturn the decision of a jury that concluded that he sexually abused writer E. Jean Carroll in a New York department store in the mid-1990s and later defamed her.
The court refused to consider the US president's appeal and issued a brief decision without detailed justification, as is the standard.
According to TV network CNN International, the decision means that Trump will now have to pay US$5 million (the equivalent of R$25.8 million) to the writer.
The decision comes at a time when the court issues opinions on the biggest cases of the mandate, many of them fundamental to Trump's agenda.
This report is being updated.
