Sugar rises 2.91% in New York with weather conditions in India
The sugar futures market remains attentive to weather conditions in India, which boosted prices for delivery in October on the New York Stock Exchange, which ended this Friday's session (26) priced at 13.95 cents per pound, with an increase of 2.91%.
According to Barchart, sugar prices reached their highest level in two weeks. "Sugar prices are rising due to concerns that poor monsoon rains in India will reduce sugar production and diminish the country's sugarcane harvest, the second largest in the world," Barchart reported.
The Indian Meteorological Department reported on Friday that the country's accumulated monsoon rainfall was 42% below normal as of June 26. India's Ministry of Earth Sciences warns that this year's monsoon in the country could be the weakest in 11 years. The monsoon season in India runs from June to September.
Cocoa
The cocoa contract for delivery in September closed with a devaluation of 2.90% and was priced at US$5,095 per ton on the New York Stock Exchange.
Barchart also highlighted that cocoa prices closed sharply lower on Friday, with signs of an increase in global supply causing the liquidation of long positions in cocoa futures contracts.
Bloomberg reported on Friday that Nigeria's cocoa exports in May rose 28% from a year earlier to reach 18,000 tonnes.
Coffee
Arabica coffee ended the day with a drop on the New York Stock Exchange and with the contract for delivery in September it registered a drop of 1.16% and closed at US$2.73 per pound.
Barchart analysis pointed out that coffee prices closed lower due to forecasts of drier weather in Brazil next week, which should allow the coffee harvest to resume in the country.
Cotton
In the cotton market, the futures contract for delivery in December closed with a drop of 0.77%% and priced at 76.38 cents per pound. The market is paying attention to the climate in the United States; NOAA's seven-day quantitative precipitation forecast indicates little precipitation is expected in Texas next week, with the Gulf of Mexico extending into Georgia showing limited totals.
Orange juice
The future expiration date for orange juice for delivery in September ended with an appreciation of 4.54%, with the contract closing at US$ 1.48 per pound.
