Students killed in accident were returning home after basketball tournament in CE
The students who died after the bus overturned on CE-187, near the district of Santa Teresa, in the municipality of Tauá, in the early hours of this Monday (15), were returning home after participating in a basketball tournament in another city.
According to firefighters, the victims were part of a basketball team from Juazeiro do Norte and competed in the Copa Sobral, more than 500 km away.
To date, 7 deaths and 30 injuries have been confirmed.
Seduc (Secretariat of Education of the State of Ceará) regretted what happened and informed, in a note, that in the vehicle there were students from the state, municipal and IFCE (Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Ceará), who participated in the Copa Sobral.
In addition, the department stated that it is following the case and must adopt the appropriate measures to assist the people involved.

"The Department of Education of the State of Ceará (Seduc) expresses deep regret over the accident involving a bus carrying a basketball team made up of students from Juazeiro do Norte, which occurred in the early hours of this Monday (15), at CE-187, near the municipality of Tauá.
The delegation was returning from the Copa Sobral when the accident occurred, which has resulted, to date, in the deaths of seven people.
Seduc sympathizes with the victims, their families, friends and the entire school community at this time of pain and consternation.
Through Regional Education Development Coordinators (Credes) 15, in Tauá, and 19, in Juazeiro do Norte, the Secretariat monitors the situation and provides support to victims and their families, in conjunction with the competent bodies.
Seduc will continue to monitor the case and collaborate with the responsible authorities, adopting the necessary measures to ensure assistance to the people involved."
The accident
Firefighters were called at around 3:24 am to the incident with reports of several injured victims, including some trapped in the wreckage.
Due to the complexity, the corporation continues to carry out, since the early hours of this Monday, search, rescue and pre-hospital care on site.
