Strike is confirmed and buses stop running in Salvador this Friday (22)

The strike begins at 0:01 am this Friday (22), when buses will stop circulating in the city.
The decision was taken during the category's assembly, after another round of negotiations without agreement between the Road Workers Union and businesspeople in the sector. The meeting was mediated by the Regional Labor Superintendency.
In a statement, the union stated that "the negotiations have been going on for almost 60 days without progress in the demands presented by the workers". According to the entity, the strike was approved unanimously.
Among the main points charged by the category are:
- Salary adjustment
- Increase in the value of the food ticket
- Changes in the scales of so-called time cards
- Reduction in working hours, considered excessive by bus workers
The state of strike had already been approved last week, during assemblies held by the category. The notice that made the strike official was published this Monday (18).
The strike brings back a debate between passengers and the population of Salvador about the cost of public transport in the city. Currently, the bus fare in the capital is R$5.90, after a 5.3% increase applied at the beginning of this year by the city hall. With the increase, Salvador now has a more expensive ticket price than capitals such as São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, in addition to leading the ranking of the highest urban fares in the Northeast.

In a statement, the city of Salvador informed that it is presenting a judicial request for maintenance of the minimum fleet in the city. Read in full:
"In view of the announcement of the bus workers' strike for the morning of this Friday (22), the City Hall is presenting a judicial request for maintenance of the minimum fleet, considering that it is an essential service to provide assistance in the main transport corridors. The service will also be provided by the 180 buses of the Complementary Transport System (STEC). Still this Friday, at 8 am, the Road Workers Union will hold a new meeting to vote on the proposal made by the companies. The City Hall reinforces the expectation of an understanding between the parties so that the strike can be ended this Friday".
