Streets in Rio de Janeiro decorated for the World Cup could win prizes

The streets of the city of Rio de Janeiro that are decorated for the 2026 World Cup can receive up to R$50,000 in cash, through a project offered by the city hall. The decree was published this Thursday (28).

The Carioca Street Decoration Competition for the Football World Cup: "Believing is an Art - Rio in the Colors of Hexa", will reward the three best decorated streets, towns or alleys in the city during the World Cup.

According to information from Rio City Hall, the competition seeks to encourage community participation, strengthen sporting spirit, value popular culture and project the city's image on the national and international scene.

Registration will be free and the notice with the schedule, registration period and additional rules will be published by the Municipal Department of Culture until June 1, 2026.

First place will receive a prize of R$50,000, second place, R$30,000, and third place, R$20,000. The twenty finalist streets will receive commemorative plaques of cultural recognition. The decorations must follow the World Cup theme, using elements linked to the Brazilian team, national colors, football, sport and Brazilian culture.

According to city hall rules, decorations cannot compromise the circulation of pedestrians and vehicles, urban accessibility, public safety or the functioning of public services.

In 2027, Rio de Janeiro will also host the FIFA Women's World Cup, which will be held in Brazil for the first time.
