Stellantis, the group responsible for the Fiat and Jeep brands, began series production of the new Jeep Avenger at the Porto Real factory, in the south of Rio de Janeiro. The compact SUV will be the first model manufactured at the unit with a 12-volt mild hybrid system and also inaugurates a new production platform for the company's electrified vehicles in Brazil.

The start of manufacturing was announced during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Porto Real Automotive Hub. According to the automaker, the Avenger is one of the main projects in the R$ 3 billion investment cycle aimed at modernizing and expanding the factory until 2030.

The model will be equipped with a 1.0 turbo flex engine and a mild hybrid system (MHEV 12V). In this type of technology, a small battery assists the combustion engine in situations such as starting and resuming speed, helping to reduce fuel consumption and pollutant emissions.
Unlike a conventional hybrid, however, the vehicle cannot run solely on electrical energy.
According to the company, the start of production of the Avenger also represents the adaptation of the factory to a new generation of electrified vehicles, in line with Stellantis' global strategy of expanding the offer of models with lower carbon emissions.
The factory will have two work periods per day
To meet the increase in production of the Jeep Avenger, Stellantis said it will implement a second shift at the Porto Real unit.
According to the company, the measure should generate 800 direct jobs at the factory and another 450 vacancies among supplier companies.
The automaker also announced the installation of eight new suppliers in the industrial complex. With this, the automotive hub will bring together 13 companies responsible for supplying components for the manufacture of vehicles.
According to Stellantis, the expansion of the supplier network should reduce the need to transport parts from other regions, increase the share of components produced in the country and reinforce the automotive chain installed in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
