SP subway starts free wi-fi project

The São Paulo Metro announced, this Friday (3), that it has started a project to implement a free internet service for passengers at the Bresser-Mooca, Pedro II and Belém stations, on Line 3-Red.

According to the company, by the end of 2026, the initiative should be expanded to all public lines. However, in this first stage of the project, the service is experimental and should remain in testing for around three weeks, during which performance, stability and passenger experience will be evaluated before commercial operation.

To use the technology, the passenger must select the #METRO_WIFI_TESTE network on their cell phone, fill out a registration form with email, telephone number and CPF and accept the terms of use.

After the first access, it will not be necessary to repeat the login when traveling between stations or returning on the same day. At this initial stage, there is no advertising.

The initiative aims to offer an average speed of up to 2 Mbps per user, and covers the entire station area.

The project expands 4G/5G coverage and uses DAS (Distributed Antenna System) technology, along Lines 1-Blue, 2-Green and 3-Red, in line with the Eletromídia modernization plan for Wi-Fi.
