SP Health Department rules out second case of Ebola
The São Paulo State Department of Health (SES-SP) ruled out, this Friday (12), the possibility of the second suspected case of Ebola virus disease registered this year in the state of São Paulo. The result was released after analyzing collected samples.
The case had been reported and presented as a warning last Wednesday (10), when a 31-year-old Brazilian woman, who had traveled to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), developed a fever and diarrhea.
The Adolfo Lutz Institute (IAL) carried out molecular biology analyzes carried out on two samples collected at different periods and obtained a negative response.
When the woman was identified with the possibility of the disease, she was transferred from a private hospital in the capital to the Instituto de Infectologia Emílio Ribas (IIER), where she remains hospitalized, with favorable clinical evolution, and receives treatment for acute gastroenterocolitis.
The analysis carried out was carried out by IAL using molecular biology techniques, capable of identifying viral genetic material.
The patient's first sample was collected before 72 hours from the onset of symptoms, a new collection was made after this period, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) protocol. Both results were negative.

On June 1, the State of São Paulo ruled out the first suspected case of Ebola recorded this year, in a 37-year-old man who had traveled to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Symptoms and transmission
Ebola virus disease can present with high fever, severe headache, muscle pain, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Severe cases may present hemorrhagic manifestations and, in critical forms, shock and multiple organ failure.
Transmission only occurs after the onset of symptoms, through contact with blood, secretions, body fluids or tissues of infected people.
The virus is not transmitted through the respiratory route.
