Son of Norwegian princess is accused of raping women and faces up to 10 years in prison
The court sentenced Marius Borg Hoiby, son of the crown princess of Norway, to four years in prison, this Monday (15): he was found guilty of two rapes and acquitted on two other charges in a case that shook the monarchy of the Nordic country.
In addition to the two rapes - one of them committed in 2018 at his official residence mother and the crown prince -, the conviction includes repeated ill-treatment against a former partner, threats and traffic violations.
Hoiby, 29, the son of Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship before her marriage to Prince Haakon, was facing 40 charges and a maximum sentence of 16 years in prison.
Without an official position or fixed profession, he always denied the most serious accusations: the rapes of four women who were unable to offer resistance, as well as the repeated mistreatment of an ex-partner.
For unspecified health reasons, Hoiby, who has been in pre-trial detention since February, did not attend the reading of the verdict and accompanied her via video conference in the penitentiary.

The Public Prosecutor's Office had requested a sentence of seven years and seven months in prison, while the defense had requested acquittal in the rape and a sentence of one and a half years for other crimes.
Hoiby admitted guilt on some charges, such as transporting 3.5 kilos of marijuana, bodily harm and threats.
The trial, which took place between February 3 and March 19, exposed the young man's life of excess to public opinion, who made headlines when he was just three years old, due to the romance between Mette-Marit and Haakon.
"I am known mainly as my mother's son, for nothing else. That's why I have had an extreme need for recognition throughout my life", he declared on the second day of the trial. "And that translated into a lot of sex, a lot of drugs and a lot of alcohol," he added.
"Regime of terror"
According to the prosecution, the rapes were committed between 2018 and 2024 after parties at which Hoiby had consumed alcohol and drugs.
In each case, after consensual sexual relations, other illegal acts allegedly occurred when the young women appeared to be asleep.
The judicial debate focused on the state of consciousness of the alleged victims and what Hoiby could perceive at the time of the events. Prosecutor Sturla Henriksbo described a defendant "who thinks he is allowed everything."
Despite his confusing explanations and memory gaps, Hoiby insisted that he was not "in the habit of having sexual relations with women who are sleeping."
He also denounced the pressure from the press which, according to him, had turned him into "a monster, the target of the hatred of all of Norway".
The case was revealed on August 4, 2024, when Hoiby was arrested for allegedly attacking his partner the night before, in a wealthy neighborhood in Oslo.
The press published photos at the time of a knife stuck in a wall and a broken lamp on the floor.
Another woman, influencer Nora Haukland, later stated that she also suffered physical and psychological violence, a "regime of terror", according to the prosecution.
During the trial, Hoiby acknowledged that jealousy could lead him to lose control.
Investigators said that during an analysis of Hoiby's phones and computers, they found videos that they said documented the rapes.
Although Hoiby is not officially part of the royal family, the case contributed to reducing public support for the Norwegian monarchy, which, however, remains relatively high.
The case adds to other scandals, such as the revelations about correspondence maintained between Mette-Marit and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein between 2011 and 2014, when the American financier had already been convicted of soliciting prostitution services from a minor.
