Son of filmmaker Rob Reiner, accused of killing his parents, claims family funds

Nick Reiner, son of American film director Rob Reiner, accused of killing his parents, asked for access to a $1.5 million family trust fund to pay for his defense, according to court documents.
Reiner, of The 32-year-old faces two counts of first-degree murder for the double murder of his father and mother that rocked Hollywood.
The bodies of Rob Reiner, 78, and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, 70, were found dead in the couple's home in an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood in December.
A 136-page request filed in Los Angeles states that Nick Reiner should have started receiving the trust fund two years ago raised by his parents and who, as he did not have access to these resources, was also unable to pay the high fees of the lawyers who represented him after his arrest.
"Nick loved his parents and is devastated by their deaths", says the petition presented this Monday. "But the facts about what did and did not happen to them are not at issue in this trust fund litigation," the document adds.
Reiner was initially represented by celebrity attorney Alan Jackson, who left the case shortly thereafter.
The trust fund is part of an estate plan the Reiners have for their three children, established in 1993.
According to the petition, Nick was to receive half of the trust money in his name upon turning 30. years, and the other half five years later. His lawyers argue that the distributions are mandatory and unconditional.
Reiner, who has a history of drug addiction, has pleaded not guilty to murder charges. He remains in prison and his case is expected to be reviewed again in September. He could be sentenced to life in prison without parole and even the death penalty.
