Sixth victim of yellow fever dies in SP; SES warns about vaccination

A 54-year-old man died from yellow fever in the state of São Paulo, last Monday (1st). The victim was a resident of the city of Lençóis Paulista, in the Bauru region.

According to SES-SP (São Paulo State Health Department), he had no vaccination history.

With the new death, there are now six confirmed deaths in the state, in addition to ten cases of the disease. There were eight cases in the Vale do Paraíba region, with five deaths; one in the Sorocaba region, with no death recorded; and one case in Bauru, with one death. In total, six people died in São Paulo, victims of yellow fever.

The men, who had no history of vaccination, were aged between 38 and 64.

SES-SP warns about vaccination, which is free and distributed by UBSs (Basic Health Units). Since 2019, immunization has been recommended for the entire population.

With the arrival of the holidays, the recommendation is that the vaccine be taken at least ten days in advance of exposure to the virus.
