Sirens sound in Bahrain after Iran announces attacks on US bases in the Gulf

Sirens sounded in Bahrain in the early hours of Thursday (local time), just minutes after Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced attacks on US military bases in the Gulf region.

"The siren has been activated. Citizens and residents are advised to remain calm and move to the nearest safe location," Bahrain's Ministry of the Interior said in a post on the X network.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had launched retaliatory strikes against 18 "significant targets", including an airbase in Bahrain and two in Kuwait, according to Iranian news agency IRNA.

To date, there have been no reports of air warning sirens in Kuwait in recent hours.

The United States launched new attacks against Iran this Wednesday.

Iranian state media reported that "enemy" projectiles hit sites near Minab and Sirik, cities in southern Iran situated near the Strait of Hormuz.

In response to the attacks, Iran's Revolutionary Guard said the route would be closed to all vessels "effective immediately," but U.S. Central Command denied the closure and said commercial ships continue to enter and leave the strait.

The attacks on Iran come after US President Donald Trump warned that the country would be hit again, citing slow progress in negotiations for a deal to end the war.
