Single-engine plane crash in the US kills 11 parachutists

The crash of a single-engine plane near an airport left 12 people dead this Sunday (14) in Butler, in the state of Missouri, USA.
Police said that the 11 passengers, who were part of a team of parachutists, and the aircraft's pilot, died in the accident.

According to authorities, emergency teams responded to a call that the plane had crashed engulfed in a fireball at around 11:30 am (local time; 1:30 pm Brasilia time).
Emergency teams were able to put out the fire shortly after the crash. Highway Patrol Officer Justin Ewing described the scene as "brutal."
"The aircraft crashed in a field next to the airport, but I believe they are closing the road just as a precaution," Sergeant Ewing said. it has also proven useful for other roles, including cargo transportation, aerial surveying, and medical evacuation flights.
The aircraft can carry up to 17 parachutists and is capable of taking off and landing on short runways. The plane was manufactured in 2010, according to FAA records.
The small airport serves about 30 aircraft, all privately owned, including crop dusting companies and skydiving operators, Ewing said.
Skydiving companies operate in the region eight or nine months a year, with the season typically beginning in late March or early April and running through October or November.
Butler is about 100 miles from Kansas City.
