♬ It is natural that all the obituaries of the singer and composer from Rio Grande do Norte Gilson Vieira da Silva (August 1, 1952 - May 30, 2026) have highlighted the song "Casinha Branca" in the title.
Released in Gilson's voice in a 1979 single and amplified in the soundtrack of the soap opera "Marrom glacê", shown on TV Globo that year, "Casinha Branca" is a simple, bucolic and confessional song that crosses generations since it was presented 47 years ago, having merited re-recordings by Fábio Jr., Maria Bethânia, Roberta Campos, Neguinho da Beija-Flor, Michael Sullivan, José Augusto and Altemar Dutra (1940 - 1983), among other names.
However, as a composer, Gilson - artist who died on Saturday, May 30, at the age of 73, in the district of Boa Família, in Muriaé (MG), of causes not revealed by the family - leaves more than "Casinha Branca" as a legacy to Brazilian music.
With his partner Joran Ferreira da Silva, co-author of "Casinha Branca", Gilson composed two hits for the singer Adriana, "I love you baby" (1986) - one of the biggest radio hits of 1987 - and "Combinado assim" (1988). Peninha released in 1988 "Seu como de amar", a song by the duo that would later be recorded by Maria Bethânia in a live album released in 2002.
In partnership with Carlos Colla, Gilson composed the samba "Verdade china", a great success in 1990 with the voice of singer Emílio Santiago (1946 - 2013). Gilson's list of partners also included Ed Wilson (1945 - 2010), Prêntice (1956 - 2005) and Ronaldo Bastos - a trio with which the artist composed the song "Não fale nada", a radio hit from 1985.
Even so, it is undeniable that Gilson's name is immortalized above all as the author and performer of "Casinha Branca", a song to which the singer knew how to impart due melancholy embedded in the song's verses.
