"Shrek 5": the film's first trailer brings a new adventure after 16 years

The film "Shrek 5" received its first trailer this Tuesday (16), 16 years after the release of the fourth and, until then, last feature film in the franchise, "Shrek: Forever After" (2010). The new story brings the audience's beloved characters into a new and updated story.

"Shrek 5" will feature the return of comedy legends Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey and Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona in their original English voices. To add to the cast, Zendaya joins as Felicia, daughter of Shrek and Fiona, alongside Marcello Hernandez and Skyler Gisondo, as Felicia's brothers, Fergus and Farkle.

Based on the book by William Steig, the franchise - which grossed more than 2.9 billion dollars at the global box office - has remained in the hall of great animated sagas since 2001 when "Shrek" won the first Oscar for Best Animated Feature in history. Since then, the characters Shrek, Donkey and Fiona have become icons and part of pop culture around the world by presenting the public with a simple and universal message: beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

In addition to the main films "Shrek" (2001), "Shrek 2" (2004), "Shrek the Third" (2007) and "Shrek Forever After" (2010), the franchise released some derivative features such as "Puss in Boots: Trapped in an Epic Tale" (2011) and "Puss in Boots 2: The Last Stand" (2022).

"Shrek 5" is scheduled to premiere in 2027.
