Shooting suspect near the White House is shot by the Secret Service

The suspect who fired shots near the White House on Saturday night (23) was arrested after opening fire on agents at a checkpoint at the official residence of the United States presidency.

The person, who an official described as having "emotional disturbances," is unconscious and was taken to George Washington Hospital. A pedestrian who was passing through the area was also shot.

The authority did not specify the suspect's condition or how he was restrained, and stated that a restraining order had previously been issued against him.

The shooting occurred near the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue NW and 17th Street NW.

Investigators recovered a pistol they believe belonged to the suspect, the official told Reuters.
