Behind the scenes of the video for 'Dai Dai', the official song of the World Cup, with 'Dance Maré'
Fifa's new hit song for the 2026 World Cup, "Dai Dai", is officially among us. The track arrived on platforms this Thursday (14).
The song was recorded by Colombian star Shakira in partnership with Nigerian singer Burna Boy and features in the title an expression in Italian that means something like "go ahead".
With Maracanã as the backdrop, the single's promotional video was recorded in secrecy on April 30, starring the Rio collective Dance Maré, formed by ten residents of Complexo da Maré, in Rio de Janeiro.
Two days before the recording, the group shared the stage with the singer in the historic show for 2 million people in Copacabana.

Invitation, backstage and treats
Different from what was speculated, the production at Maracanã is not part of the track's official music video, but works as strategic promotional material for social media.
The invitation came at the last minute, while the group was rehearsing for the Copacabana performance.

The group arrived at the stadium in the early afternoon to learn new sequences with choreographers Liz and Darina, under the remote supervision of Shakira herself.
"We recorded it and sent it to her to see if she approved the formation and the proposal", explained dancer Maria Eduarda Reis, 24 years old.
The Colombian singer only arrived at the set at night to record her scenes with the group. For the video, Dance Maré was joined by ten other guest dancers, totaling 20 people.
At the end of the recordings, the collective presented Shakira with a basket full of Brazilian souvenirs, including sandals and traditional sweets such as brigadeiro and cajuzinho.

A cover that changed everything
Dance Maré's story with Shakira began unpretentiously. It was during the 2022 World Cup, when the group decided to record a "remake" of the "Waka Waka" video.
Without the intention of reaching the artist, the video went viral and, within a week, was shared by the Colombian herself on all her social networks.

The gesture opened doors for a succession of collaborations:
the group recorded an official video for the remix of "Estoy Aquí" (the singer's partnership with Papatinho);
danced for her on the stage of "Domingão com Huck";
was invited to the historic performance on Copacabana Beach.
Presentation for 2 million people
For Dance Maré, participation in Shakira's show on Copacabana Beach surpassed any previous experience at major events.
The collective took to the stage in the final stretch of the performance to dance to "Waka Waka", the hit that established the first bridge between them and the Colombian singer.
"When we saw that crowd and then Shakira coming to hug us, we realized what had happened. We left the stage very emotional, with everyone crying, because it was, in fact, the greatest experience of our lives", said dancer João Victor Silva, 25 years old.

Beginning of it all
The group's trajectory began in a dance ministry at a local church in Maré. Despite this, the initial inspiration to form the collective came from a "global pop" group called Now United.
"We made a video cover of one of their songs, a clip, and the people in our bubble loved it. From this desire to expose our art beyond the church, in an external way, Dance Maré was born", says Raphael Vicente.
Currently, the ten permanent members - aged between 24 and 29 - combine the collective with parallel professions, working as dance instructors in gyms, professional dancers, content creators and university students.
Legado and 'Dance Maré Space'
The international repercussion achieved alongside Shakira should transform into permanent social impact by the end of 2026 with the inauguration of "Dance Maré Space".
The own headquarters, which is already under construction, will function as a training center and dance school with social prices aimed exclusively at residents of the community.

For the founder of the collective, the tour on the biggest stages in the world serves as validation of the group's central purpose:
"Making people continue to see stages full of talented people from the favela", he concludes.
