Semi-automatic impediment advances and CBF enters new testing phase

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has advanced in another phase of the process of implementing semi-automatic offside in national football. In recent days, the entity has started to promote specific training for field referees and members of the VAR team, with a focus on adapting to the new technology system.
The activities are being carried out at the VAR Central, in Rio de Janeiro. During the work, the professionals received detailed instructions on how the tool worked and participated in practical exercises using moves taken from the Premier League, a tournament that already adopts the same model that will be introduced in Series A of the Brazilian Championship and the Copa do Brasil.

According to the director of the CBF Arbitration Commission, Netto Goes, the completion of this stage represents an important step in the process of training Brazilian arbitration.
"All steps are being completed to make good use of technology. At this moment, referees and assistants are in contact with the entire concept and performance of the project, including professionals who will not have contact with technology at this time. But the CBF is keen to train all referees on the arbitration board, as well as the entire technical staff", he commented in an interview with CBFTV.
The integration between VAR and SAOT (Semi-Automatic Offside System) is considered one of the last phases before the technology's official debut in the country. In previous months, Series A clubs, including Corinthians, participated in a series of tests promoted by the entity.
Still in March, Neo Química Arena received the installation of the necessary equipment for the system to operate. Furthermore, the CBF requested the use of elite Brazilian football stadiums during the seventh and eighth rounds of the Brazilian Under-17 Championship to continue testing in real game situations.
In the case of Corinthians, the scheduled commitment for the seventh round of the youth competition is the classic against Palmeiras, scheduled for July 7th, at 3pm. Initially, the clash was scheduled for Fazendinha, but the possibility of using the Neo Química Arena is still being analyzed. The stadium has been undergoing renovations to the pitch since June 7th, exactly one month before the category's Derby.
In the state of São Paulo, other stages have also received the new technology, such as Morumbis, Vila Belmiro, Arena Barueri and Nubank Parque.
VAR technical manager, Péricles Bassols, also highlighted the relevance of this preparation stage, emphasizing the need to familiarize referees with the procedures that will be adopted during matches.
"It's a time when we have to subject the referees to this training, to the procedures and processes of an offside action in a real game. We are in the simulator phase, so these are simulated clips of offside situations where we rehearse the possible offside situations that will happen in matches. It's a moment of integration between technologies, but we take the opportunity to make the referees aware of the procedures and processes that will be necessary on a game day, under pressure", he analyzed.
The tests are being conducted by CBF in partnership with Genius Sports, responsible for supplying the system. The same technology is already used in leagues such as the Premier League, the Belgian Championship and the Mexican League.
According to the entity, the investment to implement the semi-automatic impediment is around R$25 million. The expectation is that the new feature will contribute to increasing precision in arbitration decisions, offering greater transparency to the public and ensuring greater sporting equality in national competitions.
