At least seven residents of a village in Laos have been trapped in a flooded cave for about a week, after going in to look for gold and becoming isolated by a flash flood. Authorities still don't know if they are alive.

Thousands of people are closely following the search operation on social media, watching detailed accounts of Thai rescue divers descending into the depths of the cave to find the missing.

Shared videos show divers crawling and submerging in murky water to navigate narrow tunnels, while other team members work on the surface to guide them.

A Thai rescue team called "Thailand Rescue Diver" published several photos on the social network Facebook showing a closer look at the search and rescue operations in the cave.

The seven people entered the cave in Xaisomboun province in central Laos on May 20, but were trapped by a landslide caused by heavy rain, according to a local rescue group and state news agency Lao Phattana News.
