Searches for a smart home grow 22% in Brazil, says survey

The concept of a connected home (smart home) is no longer an idea linked only to innovation but has become part of the daily lives of many Brazilians.

Interest in this type of solution appears in online searches and shows that more Brazilians are looking for products that make their home routine more practical and automated. In addition to comfort, this movement is also linked to concerns about home security.

It is worth mentioning that the survey considered searches carried out on Google in the last 12 months to measure the interest of Brazilians, with terms such as "intelligent home", "smart home" and variations related to the segment in the five regions of the country.

According to a survey released by home security company Verisure, online searches for topics related to smart home grew 22% in the last 12 months.

In addition to the increase in searches, the sector also appears to be expanding in the country. A study by Fortune Business Insights projects revenue of US$2.41 billion in Brazil by the end of 2026, which represents a 91% jump compared to 2022.

The data also shows that the connected home began to meet different needs of residents. This suggests that the search involves not only practicality, but also the intention of making the environment more functional and safe.

"Smart security, like the smart home concept, changes people's relationship with their own home. It's not just about reacting to an emergency, but about creating a routine in which the resident feels more relaxed when traveling, spending more time outside or even accompanying family members from a distance", explains Verisure's marketing director, Rodrigo Monteiro, in an official statement.

Smart switches lead consumer interest
Among the most sought after items, smart switches appear in the lead. According to the survey, the device accumulated almost 1.5 million searches on Google over the last 12 months, ahead of other popular products within home automation.

Part of this interest is explained by the device's own proposal, which allows you to control lights and other equipment via an app or voice assistant.

For many consumers, smart switches appear as one of the gateways to home automation, as they allow them to control lights and other equipment via an app or voice assistant.

Smart sockets and lamps are also among the highlights, which shows that resources linked to lighting and remote activation of devices still concentrate an important share of the public.

Connected home goes beyond light bulbs and sockets
The survey indicates that consumer interest is no longer limited to products considered more "traditional" in home automation.

Terms such as smart refrigerator, smart curtain and smart toilet surpassed the mark of 30 thousand searches in the period analyzed. Which suggests that the public is exploring broader possibilities for using technology at home.

With this, the idea of a smart home is no longer associated only with light bulbs and sockets and starts to involve various objects in the domestic routine.

Cameras and digital locks reinforce security
The numbers show that security has been consolidating itself as one of the main factors behind this advance. In the survey, smart cameras recorded 45 thousand searches, while digital locks totaled 63 thousand.

Another indicator of this trend is the 50% growth in searches for the term "smart home security system" in the last 12 months. The result reinforces that automation is being sought after not only for convenience, but also for the possibility of making the home safer.

"Today, many consumers see these devices as tools that help reduce everyday worries, bringing autonomy and predictability to the domestic routine", Monteiro adds.
