Meet the seamstress who dresses the president of Mexico
On the outskirts of Mexico City, a seamstress transformed traditional lines, fabrics and embroidery into a symbol of national identity - and won over an illustrious client: the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum.
The story of Olívia Trujillo was presented on Globo Repórter during a trip through Mexico that also included the trajectory of the artist Frida Kahlo. While Frida became a reference for feminine strength and cultural pride, Olívia keeps this tradition alive through popular Mexican fashion.
Resident of Tlalpan, in the metropolitan area of the Mexican capital, Olívia works in the back of her own house, where she produces dresses marked by artisanal embroidery and vibrant colors - elements that refer to the aesthetic immortalized by Frida Kahlo.
"We all want a little piece of Mexico", said the seamstress when showing the pieces worn by the president Mexican.

According to Olívia, the style gained strength after Claudia Sheinbaum started wearing clothes inspired by the country's indigenous and popular traditions. Often, the embroideries themselves are gifts received by the president and then incorporated into the dresses.
"Every embroidery she receives, we put on a dress," he said.
The relationship between the two began before Sheinbaum assumed the presidency. "A couple of years before she became president", recalled the seamstress.
Olívia also signed the Mexican leader's wedding dress.
"I had the fabric, the lace... And it fit well!", she said, remembering the piece made for the ceremony.

Thread, needle and Roberto Carlos
The seamstress's career began in childhood. Daughter of a woman who also worked with fabrics, Olívia learned her first stitches early.
"My mother, with a piece of cloth, could do wonders", she said.
At the age of 10, she started sewing and then got a job in a factory, where she perfected the craft.
But the sewing machine was always accompanied by another passion: Roberto Carlos' songs.
"I've been listening to Roberto Carlos since I was little", she said Olívia.
For decades, she listened to the songs on a quiet radio inside the factory. Today, after 50 years in the profession, she still works listening to the Brazilian singer's hits - now at whatever volume she wants.

The soundtrack also accompanied her personal life. Married to José for 47 years, Olívia built a family while continuing to sew dresses that convey Mexican culture in every detail.
At the end of the visit, the seamstress also prepared a special dress for reporter Sandra Annenberg to wear during the presentation of the program (see the image below).
