Screen star, Sônia Braga turns 76; remember the actress's career

Actress Sônia Braga turns 76 this Monday (8). The artist has one of the most prestigious careers in Brazilian dramaturgy and starred in hits such as "Gabriela" (1975), "O Beijo da Mulher Aranha" (1985) and recent productions such as "Aquarius" and "Bacurau", by director Kleber Mendonça Filho.

Born in Maringá, Paraná, the artist became one of the most internationally renowned Brazilian actresses, having been nominated for awards such as the Golden Globe, Emmy and BAFTA. She made her film debut in the 1960s, with the film "The Red Light Bandit" (1968). However, she became known for playing the protagonist Gabriela in the soap opera of the same name, inspired by the work of writer Jorge Amado.

Sônia Braga was also the first Brazilian to present a category at the Oscars, alongside actor Michael Douglas. She also made history by becoming the first Brazilian to participate in a production nominated for the award with "The Kiss of the Spider Woman", directed by Hector Babenco.

Since 1990, the actress has lived in New York, where she continues to act in cinema and theater. In 2020, he made the New York Times list of the 25 best actors of the 21st century, alongside Viola Davis, Joaquin Phoenix and Denzel Washington.
