School where Paris Hilton says she suffered abuse has license revoked
The state of Utah, in the United States, revoked the license of a boarding school where Paris Hilton, 45, said she suffered abuse during her adolescence.
The measure was announced this Monday (7) and, according to the decision, the school "failed to provide adequate health and safety services to students".
The decision cites non-compliance with regulations on the Provo Canyon School campus in Springville. With the measure, the school will have 15 days to request a hearing with the Department of Health and Human Services.
Infractions include failure to increase the staff-to-student ratio, unnecessary use of physical restraint and aggressive physical contact with a student, neglect of attendance and failure to verify staff information or failure to submit background checks on applicants in a timely manner.
In addition, health officials allege that staff did not seek medical attention for a student with serious injuries. On that occasion, an employee assaulted one of the students while he was already restrained.
Paris Hilton has previously spoken about the abuse she experienced during her time at boarding school. Faced with the decision by the state of Utah, she spoke out on social media.
"The news I've been fighting and praying for has finally arrived. Last night, the state of Utah officially revoked the charter of Provo Canyon School's Springville campus. After years of survivors courageously speaking out and refusing to be silenced, the children inside will finally be removed. This is something I've dreamed of for so long," she wrote on Instagram.
He also revealed the importance of seeing the result as the result of something she needed to claim.
"There are no words to describe what it's like to become the person your younger self so desperately needed. If I could go back and tell that little girl that one day she would help protect other children from experiencing what she went through, she wouldn't believe it. While nothing can erase the trauma so many of us have endured, today is a powerful step toward protecting future generations," she added.
